Man dithering whether to have a circumcsion in NYC or with Dr. Reed

    Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I wish I had the luxury of just flying down to Florida and paying for Dr.
Reed. Unfortunately, I’m in my mid 20’s, although I have insurance I make under
$600 a week and live in the most expensive city. I would love to go see Reed
but it’s not feasible. Rather keep it local. There has to be a good Urologist
or Plastic Surgeon in NYC. Thanks, Chaz

    Say Chaz,

What if I picked up your airline ticket. Please check NYC urologists first of course. Remember with us, you choose the 4 parameters, have a hand held mirror in the operating room to be sure it’s done properly as you wish. Can I whisper a secret in your ear. Most of our patients are salt of the earth people just like you, and for them, their penis is special. You take care of little Chaz.

    Chaz,

Since you are already circumcised, you are seeking a specific procedure. Dr Reed, being an Urologist and a Plastic Surgeon, is the doctor for that procedure. He has done over 5000 circumcisions and or revisions. Your penis is your calling card, you only get one. Why not go to the best.

A round trip flight to Fort Lauderdale is less than one hundred fifty dollars. I would at least make a call to Dr Reed and at least tell him the specifics of what you want.

    Wanted tight, got loose

    October 26, 2009

I had a circumcision done on July 20, 2009. The doctor performed a very loose cut after i asked him to give me a tight cut with as much inner skin left as possible. I am not very happy with the results and he is not responding to my emails. I was looking at you to do a revision and give me a tight cut. I was hoping to have this done some time in october. I am a grower and i dont know if that is why the doctor left so much skin but i had asked to be given a tight cut. he really didn’t do any analysing of the penis to even see how much skin he would need to cut in order to give me a tight cut. he was just like, ‘its going to be real loose, thats as good as i am going to get it.’ and basically just guessed when he removed the foreskin, no markings where he would remove the outer and inner skin. I was really nervous that day i went in, so i dont know if he used that opportunity to just do the circumcision however he pleased and knew i wouldn’t complain. I am really disappointed in.   Alvaro  contact: Email

    Good afternoon Alvaro,

Thank you for your interest in what we do.

With all our patients a hand held mirror is in the operating room on a near by table and you can watch the operation in progress and comment.  We are not finished until you are supremely happy with the result.

Be assured we will pre-mark your penis before surgery and make any additional corrections as we go along to suit.

We have performed over 5000 cosmetic circumcisions in the past 35 years and usually do several cases every week.

Be assured we will show you every courtesy,

    All the best,

    Dorsal Slit

    Monday, October 26th, 2009

    October 14th, 2009

Now one thing i’m still trying to understand is the Dorsal Slit Technique vs the sleeve resection technique, will the dorsal slit technique have as staight cut as with a scalpel? and what is the benefit of one versus the other?

    thanks,

    Donald

    Good morning Donald,

A dorsal slit is not a circumcision and is reserved for very serious infections of the foreskin and head of the penis, where all the doctor wants to do is make a longitudinal cut on the top side of the foreskin (without removing it) to allow the foreskin to fall away (downwards) from the head of the penis until the head or glans has sufficient time to heal, and then a formal circumcision will be done.

The other option is using a clamp which works for children, infants and neonates but in my opinion not the best for adults, because you cannot really see what is going on under the clamp before you make the incision and the result is more generic than responsive to the patient’s unique requests.

    Hope this makes sense,

Cosmetic Circumcision, what to ask for

    Monday, October 26th, 2009

Cosmetic Adult Circumcision, what to ask for
    October 25th, 2009
    Thank you Ben,

There are four independent parameters in circumcision and we are mindful of them all. The patient decides. 1. Whether or not to remove the frenulum, 2. The incision, high, medium or low. 3. Tightness: loose, moderate, or tight (the patient is given a hand held mirror and we will tighten to suit), 4. Obliquity of cut: parallel to the corona which is on a slant relative to the cross section of the shaft or perpendicular to the axis of the shaft.

This is your cosmetic circumcision, your calling card.

    Hi Robert,

I don’t think religion should really have any relevance to surgery. I am non-religious and got the circumcision by Dr Reed over a month ago and things have been great. Whatever you decide to go with, Dr Reed is the man to see for getting the result you are after, whether partial or full circ he will follow your wishes like he did with me,

    Best,

    Ben

Robert, if I were in your situation, I’d base my decision on what the expert doctors recommend rather than what relatives have done in the past. I’d also seek a second expert opinion. If they can do what you want, great.

In any case, good luck with your decision and I hope it works out for you.

Adult Circumcision, is it covered by medical insurance

    Friday, October 23rd, 2009

    Hi Dr. Reed
Thanks for the information about circumcision. Actually, I have been thinking about this procedure for a while, not because of medically necessary, but for hygienic reasons. Does medical insurance company usually cover such a procedure?   Tony Ambrose

    Good morning Mr. Ambrose,

Most insurance companies will fund for a circumcision if there is a medical reason, such as chronic irritation, phimosis, tearing, bleeding, balanitis xerotica obliterans, preputial skin bridges, perhaps recurrent penile warts or lesions on the inner skin.

We are contracted providers and accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield (non HMO) and Medicare. Or we would be pleased to fill out your insurance form for maximal reimbursement to you directly.

If you have more specific questions, perhaps you could call your carrier to learn about the unique benefits of your policy. At any rate, you have a friend in Bay Harbor Islands (greater Miami) and anticipate we will show you every courtesy.
